About Istanbul Technical University – Research Campus (ITU)
On January 19, 2008, the Framework Protocol for the Establishment of Istanbul Technical University’s Education-Research Campuses in the Turkish Republic of North Cyprus (ITU-TRNC) was signed.
On April 17, 2008, the Law Approving the Framework Protocol for the Establishment of Istanbul Technical University’s Education-Research Campuses in the Turkish Republic of North Cyprus, with the number 5756, was accepted in the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM).
On March 16, 2009, Law No. 38/2009, concerning the Establishment, Duties, Operations, and Inspection of Istanbul Technical University ITU-TRNC Education-Research Campuses, was accepted in the 44th Session of the Assembly of the Turkish Republic of North Cyprus. The law was published in the Government Gazette by the President of the TRNC.
On January 5, 2010, the approval of the Framework Protocol for the Establishment of Istanbul Technical University’s Education-Research Campuses in the Turkish Republic of North Cyprus, signed on January 19, 2008, and approved by Law No. 5756 on April 17, 2008, was confirmed. The decision was made by the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Turkey on December 15, 2009, based on the letter dated December 1, 2009, with reference number HUMŞ/1574 from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey, in accordance with Article 3 of Law No. 244 dated May 31, 1963. The decision was published in the Government Gazette.
In the academic year 2011-2012, the Preparatory School of Foreign Languages became operational, and infrastructure work began for undergraduate programs.
In September 2012, the education and training activities started for the programs of Maritime Transportation and Management Engineering, Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering.
In May 2021, the opening of undergraduate programs in Computer Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Economics and Finance, Architecture, and Maritime Business Management was approved, and student admissions began for the academic year 2021-2022.
In May 2022, the opening of undergraduate programs in Interior Architecture and Industrial Engineering was approved, and student admissions started for the academic year 2022-2023.
